Tracking and in After Effects

Once the Painting was finished in Photoshop, the layers were then imported int After Effects and tracked using a motion track and attaching a Null object to it. Because of the way the camera moves, the motion track had a curve in it, which meant that all the points in the tracked and to be moved so that the track was in a straight line. This is because all of the layers attached to the track would then move out to the right as it follows the bend in the track. From there, the layers and to be keyframed and manually moved to try and reduce any sliding the layers may have as much as possible. To help make the painting look more alive, the clouds were individually animated to move, with the front clouds moving faster than the smaller clouds in the distance.

The dust was created using a shape, drawing out the area and shape of the dust cloud and then adding a turbulent displace, fractal noise and fast box blur. Together, these three effects will then create the dust effect.

Typing these commands in the offset turbulence( for both turbulent displace and fractal noise) and evolution (only fractal noise) cause the cloud effect to animated making it look like they are actually moving. The numbers in the commands can be whatever as they control how fast and the directions that they will move. Like with the clouds, having sand/dust clouds that actually move help make the painting far more realistic as it blends the still 2D painting with the 3D CG elements as the image isn't too static.

Real-Time Rendering VS Offline Rendering

Real time rendering is where the 3D scene renders whilst it is being built in real time (hence why its called real time rendering), which is mostly used for things like video games but is now slowly m
