Planning the Shots

For the VFX assignment, a 3D scene of a town was provided to be used for the assignment. Using this scene, the task is to come up with a few different shots to composite actors into the scene using a green screen and VFX.

One idea for one of the shots is having the actors walking across the bridge as the camera moves around sort of following them. The idea is to have the camera rotate round to the right as they walk across the bridge. This will be a good opportunity to show off compositing skills as if the rise in the bridge can be matched it will make it much more interesting that them walking on a flat surface. As well as that, the masking of the bridge's railings will be another skill show off here as the mask will have to be consistently moving to stay over the railings as the camera moves. The biggest challenge in this shot however, will most likely be the shadows as the left railing's shadow will have to go over the actors as they walk through it. One way to over come this could be by simply moving the lighting so that no shadows are over the bridge at all.

Another idea for a shot is that, after the actors have walked over the bridge, one of the climbs on the wall and walks across it and jumps off at the end as the camera is moving moving backwards in front of the actors. The composition of the shot with the lower down angle is a pretty interesting camera angle as its the basic height pointing straight at the actors in a pretty linier fashion. The lighting is also quite nice in this shot as it could look really nice with the light shinning behind the actors although the shadows from the trees could create quite an issue to deal with in this shot, even more so than the bridge shot.

Having an actor climb up on something could make it look much more believable in this as they'll be reacting to objects with in the scene making the compositing look more dynamic because of it.

A third idea for a shot was to use this alley way in the scene. Maybe have someone sat on the chair as the camera pans behind the pillar. The main reason for wanting to use this part of the scene is purely down to the lighting as the only place where the light it really coming from is from the light above the door. This would be a very interesting and unique type of lighting to recreate in the greenscreen studio. If this can be recreated successfully, it would be a very nice looking shot.

If for whatever reason, those shots can be accomplished, here are some other ideas that would replace those ones. The first one would be using the fountain, maybe have someone sitting on the fountain with people walking past in the background

Another idea would be to have some actors sitting at a table outside one of the coffee shops in the scene.

Lastly, a shot using one of the food venders with a couple actors, one buy food and the other one selling.
